What To Expect? Feminine Embodiment Coaching Session

What is a Feminine Embodiment Coaching session like?

What should I expect?

How can I get the most out of it?

And is there anything special I should do to prepare?

If you’re asking any of these questions, you’re going to have a rich & rewarding experience!

Considering how you might show up for your session, ready to get the most out of it, creates such fertile ground to explore. So let’s get your questions answered. Founder of the modality & teacher at the School of Embodied Arts, Jenna Ward, shares her thoughts on what to expect in a Feminine Embodiment Coaching (FEC for short) session….

“I feel like a completely different woman. My heart is open. My body is nourished” – Coaching Client

What is a Feminine Embodiment Coaching session like?

All coaching uses questions to open new doorways of awareness, so any coach worth their salt will wield questions as ways to unlock new perspectives into your challenges & desires. But working with a Feminine Embodiment coach means you’ll also be asked to invite the:

  • Feminine: The feeling, flowing, emotional qualities
  • Embodiment: The body, including how we feel it as well as move, breathe & sound through it

While a ‘conventional’ mind-first coaching session might only be interested in what you think in response to a question, an FEC session will also invite you to slow down to feel, experience & notice how your body feels in response to an inquiry.

This means a private, quiet space where you feel safe to contemplate vulnerably is a must-have.

 What should I expect?

FECs also use the body to help us process and dive deeper into information. Let’s take a common example of having a difficult decision to make, or a conversation to have. In a conventional coaching session, you might ponder all the pros and cons of making a decision, then decide what’s most rational.

An FEC will instead invite us to notice how our body feels, the orientation our body is taking, as well as the thoughts, ideas, worries & feelings that arise in response.

We won’t immediately jump to categorize or make-meaning of these impressions, instead, we’ll dive deeper…

Feeling them in the body.
Moving them in the way we position our spine, or hold our posture.
Breathe in and out experiencing them.
Perhaps even sound words or sighs or sounds to help free what we’re feeling.

Some clients love to embrace big movements to explore their inner world, while others might just bring the most subtle adjustment to feel into the different threads of their experience. Your skilled Feminine Embodiment Coach will support you to embrace authentic expression, in ways that are comfortable and sincere for you.

How can I get the most out of it?

My top tips for getting the most out of the session are:

1. Arrive with an open attitude and willingness to get vulnerable. Your FEC is there to support you unconditionally. They have no judgment of your situation or decisions, and they don’t know what’s best for you (only you & your body know that). So show up ready to rest in the warmth & security of this genuine care and support.

2. Make sure you’re in a private space where you feel comfortable sharing vulnerable statements, and moving your body or posture as you dive deeper

3. Consider what you want to explore before the session. You might want to address:

  • A current challenge, problem, or stuckness
  • A future desire, goal, or yearning

It might be useful to write on or around this topic to help you gain more clarity & personal insight before the session (but this is optional). Even if you show up as a hot mess, your coach has powerful frameworks to support you in distilling your desires.

3. Know a Feminine Embodiment Coaching session isn’t trauma-therapy. While FEC is a trauma-sensitive way of working that can weave past trauma & current stress in, it’s not specifically designed to address the effects of acute trauma. You can read more about the differences here.

“I have discovered parts of myself I never knew existed and feel more at home in my body. I trust my instincts more than I ever have before.” – Coaching Client

Is there anything special I should do to prepare?

If you’re showing up for a single session (rather than a longer-term coaching relationship) we recommend choosing a focus for the session that you feel comfortable supporting yourself in after the sessions end. In a single session, you usually won’t have any further follow-up or ongoing support from your Coach, so it’s important what you dive into & explore feels stable enough for you to continue unraveling on your own, following your session.

Finally, get prepared to have a rich, rewarding & deeply insightful experience. We know you’re going to LOVE it!
